Give your visitors relevant information on your web.

Your visitors land on your site with something in mind; they want answers. Giving them the information they are looking for is the 1st thing to keep them on your site.

If the information you provide on your web is not something that your visitors want, they will leave your page and there goes your chance to convert them into customers.

Remember, if you can give them what they want, they might become what you want: customers.

Don’t make your visitors think.

Visitors on a website don’t read, they scan. Show your value in the most obvious manner possible on your page. There’s no reason to hide it or keep your web visitors in suspense.

The web design should showcase information as clearly as possible, and at the same time, direct your visitors on what to do next.

Let’s just remember one important fact: once your visitor leaves your site, you stand no chance of acquiring them as your customer.

This is a super important web design factor. If you are  wondering what is above the fold, it is the upper half of a newspaper’s front page, where an important news story or photograph is often located.

In the context of web design, it refers to portions of a webpage that are visible without scrolling. The portion above the fold is crucial for keeping your visitors on your site, because that will be the first thing they see before taking any further action.

If your information attracts them when they land on your web, they will continue to manoeuvre around your site.

Set clear expectations.

Set clear expectations of what is going to happen when a particular button is pressed. This will help prevent disappointments or leading your visitors to irrelevant information that they weren’t expecting.

Have a Call-to-action button that stands out.

Ultimately, what you want your website design to do is attract customers for you, and the critical task for it to do so, is to create an opportunity for visitors to click on the call-to-action button, fill up an enquiry form, join a mailing list, or even add to cart and eventually checking out.

Humans are visual animals. Our behaviour is pretty much affected by what we see. Thus, having a call-to-action button that stands out will lead our brains to process it as something that is compelling to click on.

Imagine that your website design is black in the background and there is a bright orange button to be clicked. That bright orange button will definitely catch your attention. *Wink *Wink

Don’t put up unnecessary distractions.

This is a bit related to point 6. Since what you want is getting your visitors to click on the call-to-action button, don’t distract them with different things, like asking them to like your Facebook page or following you on Twitter.

Mobile responsive.

Visitors are visiting websites on mobile phones or tablets on the move nowadays, and this means that a mobile responsive site is extremely important for a good user experience on your site.

On 21st April 2015, Google released a significant new mobile-friendly ranking algorithm, which people termed as the Mobilegeddon, where millions of websites will see a significant drop in their page ranking if their websites are not mobile responsive.

Keep your website design simple.

Last but not least, keep your website design simple. A fanciful web design may look nice but not necessarily be able to help you attract customers.

A website with a simple navigation system, stand out call-to-action button, and good user experience should do a pretty good job in attracting customers for you.
